GAF Shingle Repair: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide
GAF shingle repair in West Palm Beach typically runs $350 to $950 installed, depending on how many shingles failed, the roof pitch, and whether underlayment or flashing needs replacing too. We stock GAF-compatible shingles on our trucks and can match most GAF color lines the same week, often the same day in West Palm Beach neighborhoods like Flamingo Park, Southland Park, and Vedado. Most homeowners find the problem after a heavy afternoon storm: granules in the gutter, a shingle tab in the yard, or a dark water stain creeping across the bedroom ceiling. By the time you see it inside, the shingle has usually been compromised for weeks.

What you’re looking at is rarely one bad shingle. In West Palm Beach’s heat, UV exposure breaks down the asphalt layer faster than anywhere else in the country except maybe Phoenix. The shingle curls, the sealant strip fails, wind gets under the tab, and now you have an entry point for water. Erik Lindgren and our crew have repaired hundreds of GAF roofs here, and the pattern is consistent: the first shingle to go is usually on the south or west slope, where the sun hits hardest.
Which GAF Models This Applies To
We repair GAF Timberline HDZ, Timberline UHDZ, Timberline NS, Royal Sovereign 3-tab, and the discontinued Timberline Ultra. The compatibility issue most homeowners run into is color code, not model line. GAF has shifted dye lots over the years, and a “Charcoal” shingle from 2018 won’t match a “Charcoal” shingle made in 2024. We carry current GAF color samples in the truck and can order from GAF’s regional Florida distribution center when we need a closer match. If you still have the original bundle wrapper, check the top right corner for the color code and lot number. That detail saves us a trip and saves you a return visit.
GAF shingles use the industry-standard 5⅝-inch exposure and 12¼-inch width, so the physical swap is straightforward. The decision point is OEM versus aftermarket. We install GAF-branded shingles for warranty continuity, but when GAF discontinued a color, we’ll present you with the closest equivalent from our stock of Owens Corning and CertainTeed lines for comparison. The wind rating matters in West Palm Beach: Timberline HDZ carries a 130 mph warranty, and we won’t install a repair shingle rated below 110 mph on any roof within 10 miles of the coast. Birchbark Roofing West Palm Beach is an independent roofing company and not affiliated with GAF or any manufacturer.

Signs Your GAF Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules collecting in gutters and downspouts. The asphalt coating is breaking down. In West Palm Beach, the combination of intense sun and salt air can strip granules in 8 to 10 years on a shingle rated for 25. Once the granule layer is gone, the shingle’s weatherproofing is shot.
- Curling or cupping at the shingle corners. This is a moisture imbalance, usually from attic heat building up underneath. The shingle edges lift, and a stiff sea breeze off Lake Worth gets under them. Curled shingles are the first to tear off in a summer squall.
- Shingle tabs in the yard or driveway after a storm. The sealant strip failed. GAF’s Seal-A-Ridge adhesive is good, but it’s not permanent. After enough thermal cycling, the bond gives. If you find a tab, there are usually three or four more about to go.
- Water staining on the ceiling or a musty smell in the attic. By this point, the shingle has been leaking for a while. The underlayment is now saturated, and you’re looking at decking repair, not just a shingle swap. Florida humidity makes mold set in fast.
- Bare spots where granules are missing entirely. You can see the fiberglass mat. The shingle is structurally done. Direct sun on that mat breaks it down within months, and the first heavy rain drives water straight through to the decking.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In West Palm Beach, a single-slope shingle repair with GAF-compatible materials runs $350 to $550. A repair covering multiple slopes or requiring underlayment replacement runs $600 to $950. The biggest cost driver isn’t materials, it’s roof pitch and access. A 6/12 roof on a single-story ranch is straightforward. A 12/12 on a two-story colonial near Poinsettia Park takes longer, needs more safety gear, and the price reflects that.
Every quote from Birchbark includes the shingles, replacement underlayment patch, roofing nails, sealant, and complete cleanup. We don’t add a line item for drop cloths or shoe covers, and we don’t charge a surprise fee for the photo we send you of the finished clean-up. If the decking underneath is rotted, we’ll show you a photo and give you a written price for that repair before we cut anything. Erik’s rule on pricing is simple: the number on the written estimate is the number on the final invoice. You won’t hear “there was more damage than expected” with no receipt.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect from the ground: check gutters for granules, look for lifted tabs after a storm, and check the attic for water trails on the decking on a bright day. That’s information worth having before you call. What we don’t recommend is climbing onto a shingle roof in West Palm Beach to replace GAF shingles yourself. Working on a pitched roof without proper fall protection is dangerous, and stepping wrong on a brittle old shingle can create more damage than you’re fixing. Plus, lifting existing shingles to slide a new one under requires a nail bar, care not to break the seal on surrounding tabs, and a sense of whether the underlayment beneath is still sound.
If you’re not sure whether what you’re seeing is worth a repair, call (728) 220-0842 and describe it. Erik will tell you straight whether it’s a do-it-later situation or a do-it-this-week one.
FAQs
GAF Timberline shingles in West Palm Beach realistically last 15 to 20 years, not the 25 to 30 on the warranty, because of the combined effects of UV, salt air, and hurricane-season wind cycles. The south and west slopes wear out first. Call (728) 220-0842 if you’re seeing granule loss and want us to tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
A GAF shingle can be repaired with a patch or re-seal in many cases, but not all. If the fiberglass mat is exposed or the shingle has torn through, replacement is the only reliable fix. We’ll tell you which applies to your roof and give you a written price either way.
A standard GAF shingle repair takes 1 to 3 hours from ladder up to clean-up, depending on the number of shingles and roof access. We schedule morning appointments in West Palm Beach so the work is done before the worst of the afternoon heat.
We stock common GAF colors like Charcoal, Weatherwood, and Barkwood on the truck, and we can order any other GAF color from the Florida distributor within a few days. Bring us the bundle wrapper if you have it and we’ll match the dye lot as closely as GAF allows.
If you have a GAF roof in West Palm Beach and something doesn’t look right, call (728) 220-0842 for a free estimate. We’ll look, we’ll explain what we found, and you’ll have a written price before anything gets touched.
